Mezcal is the most complex spirit in the world. Every aspect of the process can have an affect on the flavor and aromas of the final product. In this tasting, we will be testing your ability to identify four very important aspects of mezcal: Agave varietal, production method, producer, and location. We will be tasting 8 different mezcals, with a point awarded for each correct answer. The winner will take home a special prize. We look forward to finding San Diego’s biggest Mezcal fan out there!

On Wednesday Sept 18th, we are thrilled to host Chef Janina Garay for a Chef’s collaboration at Tahona Bar & Mezcaleria.
About the Chef:
Chef Janina Garay worked for the Addison restaurant team, the jewel in the crown of restaurants in San Diego where French technique and cosmopolitan flavors attract crowds. Under the direction of chef William Bradley, Addison has won 5 Stars from the Forbes Travel Guide and AAA 5 Diamond Restaurant, but above all, they can boast of having Janina Garay, the Mexican who is driving the palates crazy with her mix of haute cuisine knowledge and the curiosity to create new flavors as she learned from playing with pots and homemade pans to the most specialized bakery and pastry ovens.
Janina is accompanied by years of experience that she began to cultivate professionally in 2011 when she entered the practical program of the Cenador de Amos, restaurant in Cantabria, Spain that has the distinction of two Michelin stars.
With the same concern with which she used to see the preparation of her grandmother’s dishes, Janina takes the leap to independence, where she will delight the Tijuanenses and soon the rest of Mexico with her first solo project, ‘‘Cannella’’.
For this chef’s event, she will serve some uniquely crafted dishes for one evening only at Tahona!

Join us as Tahona’s Executive Chef Adrian Villareal interprets recipes from Mezcales de Leyenda Partner and Author Danny Mena “Made In Mexico: The Cookbook”.
These dishes are inspired by the best restaurants, fondas, loncherías, and taco stands in Mexico City.
Author Danny Mena will guide guests through a tasting of select pours from the Mezcales de Leyenda collection.
Please join us before for hosted happy hour from 5-7 pm with a special cocktail prepared by Tahona Beverage Directors Blair Marano and Carlo Bracci Devoti.

Tahona is launching Tacos Omakase every Thursday, a first of its kind here in San Diego. Each week, Chef Adrian will feature a four course tasting menu paired with mezcal available only in our private tasting room. It is in this intimate setting that your host will walk you through the nuances of each pairing, from the ingredients used to how the mezcal was produced.
Omakase is a form of Japanese dining in which guests leave themselves in the hands of a chef and receive a meal which is seasonal, elegant, artistic and uses the finest ingredients available.
MENU HIGHLIGHTS:
– Scallop Tostada with avocado, grapefruit, red onions, fresh herbs, paired with Derrumbes Salmiana
– Maitake Asada Taco with spiced beans, avocado, morita mayo, onions, cilantro paired with Amaras Cupreata
– Cauliflower Taco with mole negro, crumbled chicharron, pickled jalapeno paired with Don Amado Espadin
– Flan paired with Mezcal Animas Ensamble
